Some men who want to compliment random women on the street are genuinely good guys who just don’t understand why their comments might be unwelcome. Some men who want to compliment random women on the street are creepy predators. Most are somewhere in between, and guess what? I don’t know you, I don’t know your life, and I have no idea if you’re going to leave it at “Hey, you look good in that dress!” or follow it up with “But you’d look better without it! Har har! C’mon, where’re you going? I know you heard me! Fucking cunt, nobody wants your fat ass anyway, bitch.”

When you compliment a random woman who doesn’t know you, no matter how nice you are about it, there’s a good chance she’s going to freak out internally because for all she knows, you could be that latter type. And I get that it’s really unfair that women would just assume that about you. I get that it sucks that sometimes, expressing totally reasonable opinions like “hey you’re hot” will make women terrified of you or furious at you. That’s not fair.

But if you’re going to lay the blame for that somewhere, for fuck’s sake, don’t blame the woman. Blame all the guys who have called her a bitch and a cunt for ignoring their advances. Blame all the guys who may have harassed, abused, or assaulted her in the past. Blame all the people who may never do such a thing themselves, but who were quick to blame her and tell her to just get over it. Blame the fact that if she stops and talks to you and then something bad happens, people will blame her for stopping and talking to you.

Why is it that Stus seem to be tolerated — nay, encouraged — a LOT more than Sues throughout various forms of media even when the men can be just as horribly, annoyingly, perfectly wangsty?

MSP: Because the patriarchy freaking sucks.

I also think it has something to do with how most YA literature is geared towards women. So Stus fit into the mould of “dream guy” so many girls supposedly want, therefore the more perfect a guy is the more women will fall for him and the more books will sell.

And when the book is marketed towards men, then having a Stu as the lead provides extreme escapism because the guy is so perfect he can do anything and have women falling all over him therefore men want to be him.

So yeah basically because patriarchy freaking sucks.

Wearing a hijab isn’t inherently liberating – but neither is baring one’s breasts. What is liberating is being able to choose either of these things. It’s pretty ludicrous to think that oppression is somehow proportional to how covered or uncovered someone’s body is. Both sides of this argument present a shallow understanding of women’s empowerment, which only drowns out the substantive challenges facing all women – issues that cannot be encapsulated in a debate about a piece of fabric.

when you think about it fanfiction is actually amazing

there are thousands of brilliantly written novel-length stories kids wrote from their own brains about characters and shows/books/movies they love all twined into the internet and other kids read these 50k+ stories in their own time and invest themselves in it

nobody’s being paid to write it and nobody’s being told to read it, people do it because they legitimately enjoy it

that is just kind of amazing

RP, too. Part of me is honestly scared to longform the RP I’ve done (I do dialogue-type RP, where you just snap lines back and forth) because it’s just so long. xD Most of my stories are well over 100k.

body positivity is a really great thing!!! but please remember that being thin is not a guarantee of self-confidence, or an excuse to insult someone.

I’m reblogging this on my “srs” blog because I’m sick of the skinny shaming I’ve been seeing trending on this poisonous, double standard-riddled site.

Applies to curvy girls, too.
